Ten Games

Habs Ratings: Ours and Theirs

Ten games gone. Number 11 tomorrow night. Time for a little review after our break.

Who have the best players been to this point?

We all have our own opinions on these things, but I wanted to share a few differing points of view on the matter here.

Our top team over 10 games (Season dome)

Forward 1: Saku Koivu
7 dome games and 2 game pucks put Saku in pole position among the forwards. It doesn't hurt that he has 4 goals and 7 assists over the ten-game span.

Forward 2: Alex Tanguay
5 dome appearances and one game puck. Alex is also leading the team in goalscoring with 6 goals and shooting percentage (33%). I don't think anyone predicted the intro to be this smoothe.

Forward 3: Alex Kovalev
4 domes, 2 game pucks and 2 game winning goals already. He has already had average games and has been called out for a slow start. Amazing that in one game he brought himself back – inspiring a comeback win, scoring the gamewinner and putting himself on point-per-game pace.

Honourable mentions (forwards): Lang and Plekanec – 3 domes each, and 6 goals and 13 points between them.

Defenceman 1: Andrei Markov
No contest. 8 domes, 1 game puck and leading scorer on the team. Excelled on defence and offense.

Defenceman 2: Roman Hamrlik
Here by the skin of his teeth and a Bouillon injury. Has been steady despite incompetent partners to this point.

Honourable mention (defenceman): Bouillon – 3 domes in 5 games, solid since coming back.

Goaltender: Carey Price
6 domes in 7 starts. Won 2 games arguably by himself. 6 wins so far with a .928 save percentage.

En Route Pour La Coupe Power Rankings

A good read, and comprehensive ranking. Fred would have the same dome except for D2, where he inexplicably (actually he does explain, but not to my satisfaction) inserts Mike Komisarek.

In other surprises, Latendresse comes in at 8 on the list ahead of Lang, Plekanec and Kostitsyn; and Halak at 18th, who pays for a single terrible outing against Anaheim to fall behind all but the bus squad. Unsurprising is the bottom 5, who are just the bottom 5.

Three star selectors

Despite being erratic and unreliable, their conclusions (when averaged) don't lie.

Based on 5 points for first star, 3 for second and 1 for third. here's their dome:

Forward 1: Alex Tanguay (1, 2, 1)
Forward 2: Saku Koivu (1, 0, 1)
Forward 3: Alex Kovalev (1, 0, 1)

Defenceman 1: Andrei Markov (0, 1, 0)
Defenceman 2: No other defencemen selected

Goaltender: Carey Price (1, 0, 2)
